Today I watched a lecture from Prof Sapolsky about aggression (an MIT Biology course from 2015 on YouTube), in which he told about a study on the declining crime rate in the US beginning in the end of the end of the 1980s. An interesting relation was found; the decline was related to the legalization of abortion. if a woman does not want to have a child, but is forced to, then there is a higher likelihood for the child to be involved in crime. It took roughly 15 years until the effect was observable in the statistics, the time span it takes a child to become a hormone driven teen . The lecture series provides many further examples how aggression is amplified in our bodies and how different levels of aggression in people can be traced back to their different environments during child development.

So, it is known, what happens when you force a women to become an unwanted child; the child is the one who will most likely suffer. We have seen that it is better for everyone, the child, mother, and society, if a woman can decide on her own.

From this holistic view, the state should have a massive interest in providing women all medical benefits to abort or grow the foetues as best as she can.

If the state takes the position: live is most precious, then my questions is the following. How can you convict someone to a death penalty? Life is precious no matter what.

Well you certainly have some clarity that I certainly missed upon my review of some other beer soaked responses I’ve kicked your way. Thanks love your discussions. Cardiologist says one beer every other day, I agree; however,I’m retired. It’s a worthy goal I will persist.

And please sir you persist also humanity can use some clear reasoning.

Peace

This is amazing. Quoting you here, " And for those who are concerned about ending an emerging consciousness, as one of my twitter responders was, I would say that if you eat meat you have already tacitly accepted such an ending, since there is no general agreement on the degree of animal consciousness." Being honest, I had an abortion. I struggled with feelings from it for a while, and reading this post really helped me wrap them up. It all makes sense to me. Thank you so much for what you do not only to science, but to individuals, like me, who look up to you.

One other thought. If the debate the GOP pretends to believe in were true, any women who was pregnant would have, at their immediate disposal, all the medical care and nurturing ANYONE could imagine. They’d be opening doors, constant medical checks, nurses, and doctors scurrying about to endure the “life” survives. But no, they are happier if a poor woman just dies.

I totally agree. I don’t believe it’s as much to do with “life” as it is about keeping the poor poor and way from the voting booth. The GOP wants to retain power no matter how authoritarian or just wrong it is. It’s all about oppression, keeping the opponent on the ropes and they do that so well we find ourselves in the untenable position of seeing this Republic go the way of the Roman Empire but a mere thousand years earlier.
