The Edge of Knowledge/The Known Unknowns Book Tidbits 1: A Time Machine must also be a Space Machine
The first of a series of scientific tidbits/teasers from my new book coming out May 9th in the US and May 11th in the UK..
Between Now and the release date of my new book, I will be posting short excerpts here on Critical Mass. The full longer excerpts will be available only to paid subscribers.
Today, I thought I would burst one bubble associated with the popular conception of time machines. While science fiction tales involving time travel are generally among my favorites, there is a problem associated with time machines that is not often mentioned. Time machines must also be space machines!
While this means most of the time travel devices from Star Trek, and Dr. Who, not to mention H.G. Wells’ classic, The Time Machine, have problems, beyond the generic problem of achieving time travel itself, I also at least included a refutation of my late friend Stephen Hawking’s “proof” that time travel is impossible. Enjoy..
I have pre-ordered delivery on May 11 I can’t wait
Back when I thought I might be able to write a decent sci-fi story, the thought of where was I in space a second ago became a central theme. Alas for me, but maybe better for others, I abandoned fiction writing.
