I can’t listen to this without thinking of Franz Kafka. The worst part of it is that when the inevitable backlash comes, it will hurt the very people who need a boost up, I also couldn’t help but think of Catherine Nixey’s book, The Darkening Age. Hopefully your clear arguments will help break the log jam, sooner rather than later because as you point out, it’s the advance of knowledge that is on the line.

Lawrence you are correct and it is important that this stupidity is understood more widely. It would be quite interesting to see how the public would react if their favourite football (soccer) teams were composed of persons accurately reflecting the demographics of the country. Maybe then the general public would realise how crazy this is.
Unfortunately this might also be a really deep rooted case of an endemic problem, in that your dealing with now emotional stances , and it is “hard to reason people out of places that they didn’t reason themselves in to” as they say.
Options…..people snap out of it, or the senior university leaders/sponsors vote with their feet or an up and coming generation rejects this.
The first I can’t see happen, the second is possible, but risky for many involved. That last is possible, but “hope” isn’t a great strategy.
To me…..this is endemic at the moment and perhaps only the passage of time and a new generation will solve the problem?

Why should I be concerned when you are under attack from similar ignorant fanatic sources? You need to self-reflect and see where your projections are coming back to you.
