You can always rely on Noam to find a way to blame America. Has it occurred to him that a) Ukraine is not a puppet of the United States, but is fighting back because they don't want to be a Russian satellite?; b) NATO expanded not because of some sinister American plot, but because the Eastern Europeans were afraid of Russia's lust for expansionism?; c) That war criminal Putin isn't actually afraid of NATO (or any other so-called "provocation"), but is invading because he wants to and thought he could get away with it because of Western weakness after Afghanistan? It's been almost 50 years since he endorsed Castro, 45 years since he endorsed Pol Pot and 15 years since he endorsed Hezbollah, and why anyone still takes his foreign policy analysis seriously is beyond me.
Alright, will do, out of respect for you Dr Krauss.
I'd have to go back and listen to it again, but the reference I remember off the top of my head is the one Chomsky mentioned most frequently - former US ambassador to China Chas Freeman, the guy who said the US was fighting Russia "to the Last Ukrainian". I remember Chas Freeman from about a decade ago, when Obama was going to appoint him as an advisor on intelligence until Pelosi discovered that Freeman thought China was too soft on the demonstrators in Tiananmen Square, whereupon she raised holy hell. Chomsky seems to have copied what Freeman said in an interview featured on antiwar . com . This includes all the stuff about NATO and the remark that caught my attention about Crimean people being happy to be part of Russia. Going by what I remember from "The Gates of Europe: A History of Ukraine" by Serhii Plokhy, in 2012 pro-Moscow parties received about 5% of the vote in Crimea. Then in 2014, after Russian troops took over Crimea, there was a "unification" referendum where over 120% of the population voted and "unification" got 97%. I'll let you be the judge of the validity of polls regarding Russia's popularity in Crimea.
Anyway, I'll listen again and see if I missed anything. But keep up the good work! I consider your show as ranking among the best there is - one episode I take issue with doesn't change that!
Thank you for this interview. I enjoyed the different perspectives Dr. Krauss
thanks very much
