Elon Musk has said he wants to level the playing field for free speech, and his mechanism will be X. Nevertheless, there are a few disturbing signs that he is not practicing what he preaches.
Just be glad he cannot himself become president of the United States. But according to our neofascist Supreme Court, he can "hire" a president with his billions.
In many ways I feel for him, having to adopt this morphing will to survive and thrive can wreak havoc on a man's understanding of his own identity, and thus his soul. Like you said, he is showing contradictory behaviour to what he is saying in an un-transparent manner. He might have over-claimed his reverence of free speech before. He is not a man that would be willing to risk his life, business and empire to maintain free speech at all costs.
Feathers come and go. Eventually, one must let them go. We're less rebelious against Gravity this way, and try to make our home closer to the center of Terra Firma. Hope rests in having a bottom through which nothing can fall through.
I've stayed off X shortly before Elon took over, and have been off the service since. I interact with X via paid API for a variety of external clients, but I do not post. At the level Elon is playing the game, it is inevitable for him to be duplicitous and have to live with that and our realization of this. He's not a two-face, he's a many-faces.
Above all, it's important to keep in mind that X operates as a business. Its primary focus is selling advertising or, alternatively, selling attention to the highest bidder. Notably, X's CEO previously served as the head of global advertising at NBC.
As the proportion of a business's revenue driven by display (non-search) ads increases, the business seems to deteriorate (see also: Facebook). My biggest fear in this space is for the news industry. Always ask for an ad-free subscription tier, and subscribe to it!
Excellent Lawrence. I've contended that history has taught us that for the past 3000 years and probably before, most of the problems in the world have been and are due to religion andmoney. Many people substitute power for money but I contend power is the first offshoot from both religion and money. Musk, a brilliant person, has changed pathologically in the past few years, and his main drivers are money and his use of religion for his own purposes.
thanks robert!

interesting assessment.

I don't like Musk, twitter etc. How can such an intelligent person be a MAGA nut?
You must have been naive!
Aren't we all, all of us, whom still have hope?
you mean the thing with feathers? 😅
