Iceland 2022: The land of fire and Ice
Visit iconic sights, attend a special lecture, and tour a new carbon capture facility with 40 guests, organized by The Origins Project Foundation
I have visited Iceland twice, and each time that I have done so, my perceptions of the world have changed for the better. Iceland is replete with striking glaciers, including the largest in Europe, unique wildlife habitats, vast lava fields and craters, steaming vistas, beautiful waterfalls, mountains of pumice and ash, geysers and volcanoes. Around every corner the images are surreal.
Icelandic society too is fascinating. The stark environment has produced haunting literature, and the opportunities provided by living at a volcanic ocean ridge have overcome the obstacles that also presents. Essentially all of the heating on the island, industrial as well as residential, is geothermal, meaning the primary source human-generated CO2 comes from automobiles, and with the small population and vast empty spaces, this makes the air especially clear and refreshing.
These are just some of the reasons that The Origins Project Foundation is sponsoring a 4 night 5 day land tour of Iceland limited to 40 people on September 21-25 following our cruise to Greenland. During this brief but packed Iceland Experience, Origins travelers will be immersed in the dazzling beauty of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, take an exciting close-up look at the active geological features of the ‘golden circle’, and learn about cutting-edge science that powers the nation and cleans the atmosphere.
Beyond the iconic fixtures of Iceland that we are planning to experience, I am particularly excited about two additional components of our trip. Origins travelers will get an exclusive introduction to one of the world’s first commercial carbon capture and storage facilities, not open to the public. Later that evening, along with local hosts we will co-sponsor a public lecture and panel discussion with myself and Nobel Laureate Barry Barish, as well as various local experts.
We currently have 6 or so spaces remaining open for interested members of the public, but we will need to close the trip to additional reservations in about 2 weeks. Pricing starts at $2,390 USD per person and up (double occupancy). A full explanation brochure is available at https://originsproject.org//iceland-2022.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know some of you in Iceland, while sharing some great experiences together with a great group of people.
I am so excited to get there. If you look at the pictures on the website it looks like a fantasy land. Hopefully there is a chance to meet some of you I already got to meet at the Q&As (which are definitely too rare and short😪)
